First Day!

Hello Class and Welcome!!

Thank you for such a wonderful first day! I really enjoyed meeting you all and look forward to getting to know you better as we learn about the many dimensions of housing and homelessness.

The tech issue at the start of class threw me off my game a bit and I realize I didn’t formally introduce myself, but I do have a little bio on the course homepage and as you know I’m working to compete a draft of my dissertation by September 16th (yikes!).

Here is the link to the class website (which is also available on Blackboard) – https://urbst222urbst723f22lilli.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

As per the syllabus, please read the syllabus carefully and bring any questions you may have to class on Wednesday 8/31. I’ve tried to make everything as clear, accessible, and straightforward as possible, but you may still have questions or need clarification.

I have uploaded an updated syllabus that shows what week is your discussion leader week. On the Wednesday of each week, I can advise the following week’s leader(s) which material(s) would be best suited for the discussion template. Essentially, the idea is that do either one longer/denser piece (whether that be a reading or podcast etc.) or two shorter pieces.  If we have two leaders, we can sort who does what.  You’ll fill out the template(s) for the material(s) and we’ll use that as the basis to start a class discussion (please read the ‘Class Participation’ section under ‘Assignments’ on the website) .

You don’t have to be the resident expert on that material, but I am looking for evidence that you read/watched/listened (depending on what it is) and made a solid effort to understand it through what you put in the template – questions and confusions are welcome, we’re here to learn after all. 😊

Lastly, your Open Access (OA) materials are hyperlinked in the syllabus (which has the full class schedule in it) and I will put each week onto the course website’s schedule tab  a week at a time. I am open posting non-OA readings to Blackboard ahead of time if you’d like extra time to read them…just ask!

That’s it for now…see you Wednesday!!
